San Francisco

This week my Dad and I drove down to San Fran, to hang out with cousins for the New Year. We walked around downtown San Francisco to see all of the amazing views and venture into China Town! Along the way there were some cool looking buildings along the way. This is my favorite one! [the pyramid shaped one]

Dubai Towers

This week I have began the creation of the Dubai Towers. This time instead of trying to fight with Styrofoam. I have gone back to clay. The creation of the Dubai Towers has been a serious feat in the architecture field. The fact that you can build a structure with a curve and bend that extends over the base is phenomenal, especially on the ground that they are building on.

Styrofoam Week Two

After working with Styrofoam I learned that it is a fun material to work with, but after having to paper mache the whole thing... It may be worth doing out of wood. What do you think?

New medium

After failing on Friday with my clay work. I went to work with my friend on a physics project. We used Styrofoam. I LOVE STYROFOAM! I could make all of my work for art with Styrofoam. Shaping it by cutting and melting with knives and blow torches.... My concentration just became AWESOME!

Concentration

After spending an entire weekend thinking about what I should ultimately do for my concentration, and I decided to focus on the geometric shapes and lines, inspired by the Dubai structures. This is one of the structures that influenced me to make this decision. What do you think?

"Anara Tower"
In the middle of the round top there is a wind turbine, which is there to help promote the "Green Bling" of Dubai.

Dubai

I have been very influenced by Dubai. I have a friend that lives in Dubai and he has informed me that some of the new structures proposed to be built are defying the rules, such as building directly on a sand bottom, or an island literally on the water. The photo below is of the Dubai Towers.

Concentrations

I have been battling ideas for my concentration, I have narrowed it down to either Midevil Times, Achitecture, and geometric shapes and lines. Ideas?

Fountains

Every year in ceramics I always think about making a fountain. This year seems like it would be a perfect time to create one. The photo above is one of the fountain ideas I have been looking into. What do you like in a fountain? How would you go about creating yours?

After creating a piece of artwork made out of a circuit board and wood. I started thinking about what it all meant, whether or not nature was a thing that should be preserved or harvested. I came to the conclusion that neither one was correct; whether our civilization wants to suffer the consequences of dieing off from not using nature or we destroy nature in a selfish way to prosper. What do you think?

Family

My family project is coming along wonderfully! The piece represents my family and our conversations. The fact that we are able to discuss private matter and then are able to close up the discussion. I am going to use a metal zipper to seal the piece together. There are holes along the opening and down the center to tie the zipper onto the pot after firing. What do you think?

10/6/2010

This is a sketch of my current project. It focus's on my family and how we talk about confidential matter, and we are open to the discussion; but once the discussion is over we close it up and the secret is safe within our family bonds. This is very important to us that we are able to be open and available for discussion. Within the project I plan on incorporating a metal zipper, which symbolizes that we are able to "zip up" our conversations.

Flow_10/1/2010

As I was surfing the Internet looking for cool project ideas, i came across this unique design. I really enjoy the flow of the pots. My curiosity kicked in and I took a super close look at the design and it appears that it was a thrown base and a slab backing scored on. Genius right! What do you enjoy from this? Please let me know.

9/22/2010 Creations

My current pieces, are these two containers, inspired by Sarah (a guest artist that visited our group on our retreat) They are six inches tall, large enough to store nicknack's. They are extruded tubes, with pushed in sides to create a foot, they are closed off by a hand pulled base and top. My plan is to burnish them smooth and apply a design with black under glaze, from there I will most likely pit fire them with a copper wire wrapped around them to give an orange glow. Feel free to post what you think of them.

Art Retreat

The trip to Manucha was a great experience perhaps one of the best things I have done with a group of Lakeridge students. I loved the boding time with the rest of the group. The project we did was great; I learned that a piece of artwork can be made out of anything even something as simple as a cylinder. The artist was excellent -she had some memorable quotes- she was very down to earth and quite holistic. It was interesting to hear someone else’s views on the subject of plagiarism in art, and how other peoples work can be reflected on your own art. Our group adventures were exciting as I was left at the house alone… in the bathroom… so much for the “No child left behind.” That was quite entertaining and I’m sure will be a story to tell later on.
My project that I created in the woods was a bird’s nest with flowers in the center. It turned out well, along with my duel flowers in a piece of driftwood, not only is it a multimedia piece it is a piece of nature. Both pieces blend into the environment easily by having touches of green moss, which is incorporated in the design. I cannot wait for the next retreat or wood firing, for another relaxing trip away from school.

A quick snapshot achieved a wonderful picture!
